Proud to be a Sirimavian

As innocent children we stepped in to the school. But as enthusiastic adults we come out to the society. Our school shaped us in to successful and dutiful citizens. To such a school, we should pay tribute. It is our duty and responsibility as past Sirimavians, to form and encourage the Old Girls Association to give the fullest support to the best of our ability.

O.G.A. of Sirimavo Bandaranayake Vidyalaya was founded in 1991 under the patronage of madam principal Mrs. R. M. L. Jayasekara. The inaugural meeting held on December 1990 where Ms. Sanjeevi Samaranayake and Ms.Geeta Munasinghe were appointed as first chairperson & secretary, respectively. We started off our fund raising with minor projects as raffle draws, lotteries, car washes & small fairs. But gradually we were able to launch highly profitable tasks, which gave us the opportunity to assist the school financially. For examples;

1. In 2000 we assisted to furnish the hostel & formed "The hostel fund" for future maintenance.
2. In 2003 the "Sirimavo walk" & the musical show with Bhatiya & Santhush raised money for the donation of the School van.
3. In 2005 we assisted to complete the school canteen by donating Rs.1.5 Million.
4. And also we financially supported the students who participated in Asian Games and Australian Net-ball tournament.
5. We extended our helping hand to Gonnoruwa & Yahangala primary schools in Hambantota district which were affected by Tsunami. A complete library complex with electricity was provided for each school.
6. To celebrate our schools birthday every year on 31^st of January, we provide our very best support to organize a pirith ceremony followed by an alms giving.
7. Every year ten full scholarships are awarded to the gifted but less fortunate students, and we hope to increase the number of scholarship gradually.
8. Among the yearly events supported by us are; The World Children's day with junior Sirimavians, World Teachers' day where we pay our tribute to our past and present panel of teachers and The annual sport meet.

Message for the past students of our school

Once you were the beneficiary; now you are successful and resourceful. It is your duty to answer the call of your Alma Mater. She needs your generous donations and help. As past students you should be proud to see her success. You can send your donations by cheque in favour of “ The Principal, Sririmavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo 7”
