School Hostel

School Hostel of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya was set up in 2003.

Grade 5 scholarships holders entering the school are provided hostel facilities depending on the distance from home to school. There are residential facilities for about 45 inmates. Presently about 38 pupils share the facilities provided. Teachers provide voluntary service to the pupils from grade 6 to 11 by way conducting special classes after school in subjects like Mathematics Science, Social studies and English. In addition to the educational activities, inmates work according to a regular daily routine time table including sports and religious activities after school.

School Library

The college library was set up in 1982 with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Library Services Board .In 1996 a program titled “Library Week” was inaugurated during the “Reading Month”. Library facilities are provided to all the pupils of the school and there are two libraries separately; one for Primary Grades and other for seniors.  

A reference section and a lending library section function and about 250 students are benefit daily from the lending library section. Books are issued on a daily basis to advanced level students and on the recommendation of  teachers in charge books are provided to pupils taking part in “Do You Know “contests and debating teams. The strength of the library is about 15000 books.

Magazine section has been organized to improve the General Knowledge of the students. A Library society and Library Readers Society has been organized and hoping to have a “Library Week” during the “Month of Reading” (October) in 2008.

Swimming Pool

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa declares open the Swimming Pool of the Colombo Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya. Principal of the school Ms Pushpa Kalubowila, Education Minister Susil Premjayanth and Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge were associated with the First Lady at the opening ceremony.

Our own Swimming Pool was ceremonially opened by the first lady of Sri Lanka, Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa on 28th October 2008.

A swimming pool of our own was a long felt need of the Sirimavians. Many problems arose in attending training sessions in other pools specially transport problems and supervision. As such a strong request was made by the students to commence work on a school swimming pool. As a result the foundation for the school swimming pool was laid in October 2006. Many projects were launched to raise funds for the project.

OGA handling of over a cheque worth Rs. 2 million to Madam Principal (Sound of Waves 2007)

have gone a long way in swelling the funds of the project. The construction work was done under the supervision and guidance of a committee consisting of Chartered Engineers, Architects and Accountants.

Sahan Engineering Construction Company limited which tendered the lowest bid was entrusted with the construction of the swimming pool. Consultancy Services were provided by Stems consultants (Pvt) Ltd. Overall Supervision was done by National Building Research Organization and architectural and engineering planning was entrusted to Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.

Stage 1- Total cost Rs. 21 million. Anticipated total cost of completing the project was around Rs. 30 million. To achieve success in this venture, every week on Thursdays, the swimming pool project committee met and progress was reviewed and records were maintained.

Swimming Pool project would cater to the long felt need of the Sirimavians and foster the advancements in the sphere of sports.
