Global School Partnership Project

According to this project our school is linked with OMAGH School in Northern Ireland since 2006.This is a program organized by British council and the Ministry of Education and about 2000 students from Grade 6 upwards are linked. An action plan was made and students are involved in various projects. Letters and E-mails are exchanged. The aim of this project is to build a healthy relationship, and to share a strong global dimension in the curriculum. In the long term Inter-community ties will be strengthened and value of cross cultural working will benefit students. This will enable children to develop their English and IT skills which will pave the way to enhance the standards of Ordinary level, and Advanced level examination results. Our school is nominated for an international school award.

The coordinator of the project, Mrs. Nilanthi Perera visited the partner school in Northern Ireland in June 2007(11th June to 15th June 2007). Presentations on culture of Sri Lanka, its cultural heritage and on Buddhism were made. The  5S concept followed by our school was presented to them. Science and Mathematics classes were observed and a ‘Sri Lankan day’ was organized there along with traditional costumes and local food. The main objective of the visit was strengthening the existing partnership paving the way to understand different cultures in its full perspective.

A teacher from OMAGH high School visited our school from 11th October to 16th October 2007.She did presentations on English Language teaching and recycling and did demonstrations on food items of Northern Ireland. She also observed English, Social Studies and Science lessons and was given a warm welcome and quite impressed by the atmosphere of the School, the culture of the School and the level of Education imparted.
